Images that are infused with a surreal touch. A simple shot of a Japanese tourist by the Grand Canyon takes on an almost studio-set unreality. Tricky but potentially mundane, a stainless steel kitchen glows with incandescent light. But for the hanging soup ladles it seems more like the interior of a strange alien craft than a commercial kitchen in Adelaide.

Tell-tale references belie John's subject matter, but things are not quite what they seem. It's the 'double-take' quality that gives his images resonance.
