John Bodin is an Australian
commercial and advertising photographer. John's
years of experience as a professional photographer, peer recognition and industry
awards certainly gives clues to his prowess over light and its capture. But
nothing quite leaves an impression as discovering his work for yourself.
Images that are infused with a surreal touch. A simple shot of a Japanese tourist
by the Grand Canyon takes on an almost studio-set unreality. Tricky but potentially
mundane, a stainless steel kitchen glows with incandescent light. But for the
hanging soup ladles it seems more like the interior of a strange alien craft
than a commercial kitchen in Adelaide.
Tell-tale references belie John's subject matter, but things are not quite what
they seem. It's the 'double-take' quality that gives his images resonance.
